Sports park consultation launched

May 20, 2016

A public engagement exercise for the Kai Tak Sports Park was launched today to provide information on the planning of the project and collect public views on it.

The exercise includes the launch of a dedicated project website, roving exhibitions, a questionnaire survey and consultations with District Councils.

The Home Affairs Bureau said the park is the most important Hong Kong sports infrastructure project in recent decades. It covers 28 hectares and will be the largest sports ground in the city.

The park will provide multi-purpose sports venues that will allow the hosting of major international sports events and provide many facilities for professional and amateur athletes, and the public.

The key facilities will include a main stadium with a seating capacity of 50,000, a public sports ground with a seating capacity of 5,000, and an indoor sports arena with a seating capacity of 7,000. Plus, it will have a landscaped park with an area of more than seven hectares.

Other facilities under planning include ancillary facilities such as retail space, food and beverage areas, a hotel and office space for the sports community and related industries.

The engagement exercise will end on July 19.

The bureau calls on people to visit the roving exhibition and express their views by completing a questionnaire.
