The Department of Health is investigating a suspected case of MERS, or Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, affecting a 51-year-old man in stable condition.

The patient had travelled to the United Arab Emirates and is seeking medical treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Travel agents organising tours to the Middle East are advised not to arrange camel rides and activities involving the animals which may increase the risk of infection.
