Inquiry launched into vaccine storage

April 22, 2016

The Department of Health is investigating the storage of vaccines at the wrong temperature at Haven of Hope Bradbury King Lam Clinic in Tseung Kwan O.

The department yesterday conducted a routine inspection of the clinic and found that temperature readings in April in two refrigerators were lower than recommended.

Some vaccines exposed to abnormal temperatures may have been administered to clients since February last year.

The vaccines include those for hepatitis A and B, human papillomavirus, influenza, 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate, 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide, rotavirus and varicella.

The clinic has been instructed to stop administering the remaining vaccines and trace clients who have received vaccinations since last February for checks.

So far no adverse reports related to the affected vaccines have been received.

Clients are advised to call 2623 5517 or consult healthcare professionals for advice if they are in doubt or feeling unwell after receiving the vaccines concerned.
