Specialists consulted on night shifts

April 22, 2016

The Hospital Authority will consider the opinions of specialists in determining when pregnant staff should be exempt from night shifts, Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man said today.

The authority is proposing to exempt all nurses who are 32 weeks pregnant or more from working night shift.

The move comes after a pregnant nurse recently suffered a stroke while working the night shift.

Asked whether 32 weeks is too late in the pregnancy, Dr Ko said the issue is still under review and the authority will consider opinions from specialists in obstetrics and gynaecology.
