Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung visited the Hong Kong Young Women's Christian Association Cheng Pon Hing Care & Attention Home for the Elderly in Lei Tung Estate today, to extend his Lunar New Year wishes to its residents.

Mr Cheung was welcomed by four Golden Guides members for a tour of the elderly home in Ap Lei Chau where he presented Mandarin oranges to residents.

He also spoke with two residents who are 102 years old and joined other seniors for their exercise session.

"With a fast ageing population in Hong Kong, the Government attaches great importance to the well-being of our elderly citizens. We aim to create a social environment conducive to active ageing for the able-bodied elderly so that they can continue to contribute to society," Mr Cheung said.

He added that the Government will continue to strengthen community and residential care services for frail seniors according to their different care needs.

The Government will adopt an all-encompassing strategy in improving the quality and quantity of elderly homes, Mr Cheung said.
