February 11, 2016

The Mainland's first imported Zika Virus Infection case did not leave Hong Kong International Airport while transiting through Hong Kong, the Centre for Health Protection said today.

The 34-year-old man had travelled from Caracas, Venezuela to Paris, France on Air France flight AF 385 on February 2. He boarded flight AF 188 to Hong Kong on February 3.

He arrived at Hong Kong Airport at 6pm on February 4 and departed for Fuyong, Shenzhen by ferry at 8pm that day.

The Port Health Office has followed up with Air France and Chu Kong Air-Sea Union Transportation Company on the necessary hygiene measures for the aircraft and vessel concerned. Inspectors will check both when they next arrive in Hong Kong.

The office has increased inspections at the airport to maintain strict environmental hygiene with effective mosquito control.
