The Centre for Health Protection has received notification of the first imported Zika Virus Infection case on the Mainland from the National Health & Family Planning Commission.
The public, particularly pregnant women, those planning pregnancy and immunocompromised patients are advised to adopt strict anti-mosquito measures when travelling overseas.
The patient, aged 34 is from Jiangxi and works in Guangdong. He fell ill in Venezuela on January 28 and went to a local hospital for management. He then travelled to Hong Kong on February 3 and stayed in Hong Kong International Airport until he took a ferry to Shenzhen on February 4. He was hospitalised on arrival in Ganzhou on February 5.
As the patient had stayed in the airport, the Port Health Office has stepped up inspections there to maintain strict environmental hygiene with effective mosquito control.
