Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man says the Hospital Authority will conduct an independent investigation into the death of a patient at North District Hospital who was reportedly given the wrong dose of morphine by a student nurse.
Speaking to reporters today, Dr Ko expressed regret that a serious medical incident had occurred, adding that the hospital has apologised to the patient's family and it is the hospital’s responsibility to provide assistance to the family.
He noted that the authority must look into the required double-check procedure for medication, especially high-risk medication, and the supervision of healthcare workers in training.
