The Hospital Authority Board today approved the salary adjustment for senior staff. In response, Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man said he was pleased that the matter was satisfactorily resolved through dialogue and goodwill between the management and staff.
In a statement, Dr Ko said that as the statutory body responsible for the provision of public health services, the authority can determine the salary level of its employees.
He noted that the authority, in the long run, has the ability to sustain and absorb the recurrent expenses arising from this salary adjustment decision.
"It is of paramount importance that all public money must be used in a proper way," Dr Ko said.
He added that the devotion and contributions of frontline medical staff in the public sector have all along been well recognised by the community, and he is confident that they will continue to provide quality services to the public amid a heavy workload and the challenges of an ageing population.
