A pilot scheme will launch at University of Hong Kong - Shenzhen Hospital to enable eligible Hong Kong seniors to use the Elderly Health Care Voucher at the hospital from tomorrow for designated out-patient services.

Director of Health Dr Constance Chan today signed a service agreement on the pilot scheme with the hospital's Chief Executive Grace Tang, witnessed by Chief Secretary Carrie Lam, Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man and Shenzhen officials.

Mrs Lam told reporters the pilot scheme was proposed during the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Co-operation Meeting in January, and she was glad to see the scheme's implementation within several months.

She noted that the Government would continue the voucher scheme to benefit seniors.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr Ko said the Government will closely monitor the scheme and consider further expanding the scope of the voucher's use on the Mainland.

Under the scheme, Hong Kong residents aged 70 or above holding a Hong Kong identity card or Certificate of Exemption issued by the Immigration Department, can use the voucher for out-patient services.

It can be used for designated out-patient services including preventive care, curative and rehabilitative services, but not in-patient and pre-paid healthcare services or sole purchase of products, such as medicine and medical equipment.
