Mooncakes pass safety checks

September 02, 2015

A total of 160 mooncake samples have passed safety tests, the Centre for Food Safety said today.

The samples cover more than 20 brands, including traditional, snowy, ice-cream and other types of mooncakes, which had been collected from various retailers and food factories.

Despite the satisfactory results, the centre reminded people to avoid eating excessive amounts of mooncakes as they are high in sugar and fat, while some contain high levels of salt.

Consumers are advised to refer to nutrition labels, particularly on sugar, salt and fat content to make a healthier choice and avoid mooncakes that contain more than 20 grams of fat or 15g of sugar per 100g of food.
