The Department of Health has received 17 reports of heavy metal poisoning after consumption of medications prescribed outside Hong Kong for treatment of chronic skin conditions.
The cases involve 14 men and three women, aged 26 to 64, who had consulted a man who claimed to be a Chinese medicine practitioner in Changping, Dongguan from June 2013 to July 2015. They are all in a stable condition.
The department urged people to consult qualified or registered practitioners when seeking consultation outside Hong Kong.
