The hustle and bustle of city living has led to a general lack of exercise amongst the Hong Kong population.
As such, the Leisure & Cultural Services Department is again hosting the annual Sport for All Day to promote local fitness.
The theme of this year's event is “Fitness for Health”, to encourage people of all ages and those with disabilities to pursue a healthy lifestyle by performing simple physical exercises.
The Physical Fitness Association has designed the Easy Fitness Exercise for All activity, which is simple and easy to learn.
It consists of eight exercises which can be done anytime and anywhere, and helps to train different muscles.
The association's Executive Director Sam Wong said three or four minutes are enough to complete the entire fitness routine, and each action requires only 15 to 20 seconds.
One is to march on the spot and rotate the wrists for 15 to 20 seconds to get the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems ready for exercise.
Next is to stand with the feet slightly wider than hip-width apart and slightly-bent knees, to stretch arms in front for balance and exhale to return to the starting position. Repeat 10 to 15 times.
Instructors will teach these exercises on Sport For All Day on August 2.
Other free recreation and sports programmes on that day include parent-child sports activities and health talks and activities for the disabled. The department’s recreation and sports facilities will be open for free use for advance bookings, including its badminton, basketball, tennis and table tennis facilities, and fitness rooms and water sports centres.
