8 MERS cases reported

July 30, 2015

The Centre for Health Protection is monitoring eight newly reported Middle East Respiratory Syndrome cases in Saudi Arabia.

The patients involved are aged 28 to 93. One has died.

So far 1,382 cases have been reported to the World Health Organisation globally, including at least 493 deaths.

The department urged travellers to the Middle East to avoid going to farms, barns or markets with camels, and to avoid contact with sick people and animals, especially camels, birds and poultry.

People should also pay special attention to safety during travel, taking due consideration of the health risks in the places being visited.
