Plane passes hygiene check

July 06, 2015

No pathogen was detected in the last post-disinfection water sample collected from Cathay Pacific aircraft, matching the result of the other 13 samples taken from CX planes announced earlier.

The Department of Health said today its has been taking follow-up action after test results of water samples collected from CX aircraft were found to be unsatisfactory.

The investigation found no evidence to suggest a contaminated water source at the airport's water filling points, it said.

The trace amount of coliform bacteria detected from two water tankers of the Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company and Pan Asia Pacific Aviation Services earlier suggested a suboptimal standard of water quality, likely related to the tankers' hygiene conditions.

No pathogen or coliform bacteria has been detected in post-disinfection water samples.

The department will continue to work with airport stakeholders to step up regular cleaning, disinfection and surveillance of water tankers.
