Man dies of Legionnaires' disease

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a case of Legionnaires' disease in which a 65-year-old man died.

 

The patient, with underlying diseases, fell ill on June 26.

 

He was admitted to North Lantau Hospital and was later transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital’s intensive care unit.

 

His condition deteriorated and he died on June 30.

 

Tests revealed he was suffering from Legionnaires' disease. 

 

He had travelled from Japan to Huizhou and planned to return to Japan via Hong Kong on June 28.

 

It is the 22nd case of Legionnaires' disease reported this year. There were 41 cases last year and 28 in 2013.
