A proposal to adjust 117 non-livelihood related public health fees and charges will be tabled to lawmakers on July 8 for implementation on January 1, the Department of Health says.
Under the proposal, fees will be raised by 7% to 20%, and one item will be reduced by 14%.
The affected legislations include the Medical Registration Ordinance, Dentists Registration Ordinance, Midwives Registration Ordinance, Nurses Registration Ordinance, Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance, Chiropractors Registration Ordinance and Chinese Medicine Ordinance.
Most of the fees covered have not been revised for nine years or longer and a recent costing review showed that a majority of these fee items fall short of full cost recovery.
The department said it will regularly review and streamline work procedures, and implement efficiency initiatives to contain costs of providing the services.
