Korea travel alert to stay

June 28, 2015

The outbound travel alert on Korea will remain in force until no new confirmed Middle East Respiratory Syndrome cases are confirmed in the country for four weeks.

Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man said the Hong Kong Government must be certain before withdrawing the alert that MERS transmission has stopped.

Transmission stoppage will be clear after two incubation period cycles, which is 28 days.

He urged people to remain vigilant as a new observation cycle has just started.

On the failed tendering exercise for the colorectal cancer screening pilot programme, Dr Ko said the exercise has a high requirement in quality and accuracy, and a huge number of tests must be conducted.

The Department of Health will review the terms of the exercise and launch another round of it, Dr Ko said, adding it will not affect the Government’s determination in promoting the scheme.
