Woman's death in clinic sparks probe

June 22, 2015

Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man is concerned about an incident in which a woman died in a traditional Chinese medicine clinic.

The victim was having electrotherapy to reduce back pain at a centre in Tai Kok Tsui yesterday. Police are investigating the case.

Dr Ko said they will probe whether anyone involved had been practising Chinese medicine without the required registration or a licence.

The Department of Health is now arranging a consultancy study to advise the Government on the direction of future legislation on medical equipment regulation.

It is expected to finish the study and report to the Legislative Council with a detailed legislative proposal early next year.
