Care home licence refused

May 29, 2015

The Social Welfare Department has said it intends to refuse Tai Po Cambridge Nursing Home's licence renewal application. The licence expires on May 31.

The department today served a notice to the nursing home specifying that the licence holder may make written representations on the notice within one week.

The department would make a final decision after considering the licensee's representations. The care home's licence will be valid until a decision is made.

The private care home is accused of making seniors queue up for showers on an open-air terrace naked or half-dressed.

Social workers have started to contact the affected residents and their families. The department has set up a help desk at 3183 9356 for those who encounter difficulties searching for elderly home places or would like to enquire about residential care arrangements.

There are currently abundant vacant places in private elderly homes in Tai Po to accommodate all the affected residents.

The department added it will not tolerate any act of elderly abuse and that the Residential Care Homes for the Elderly Licensing Office will investigate any suspected cases seriously.
