The Architectural Services Department has had a Ficus virens tree removed from the slope of of the former Central Government Offices today to ensure public safety and prevent the spread of brown root rot disease to other nearby trees.
The 20-meter tall tree, listed as ARCHSD CW/34 on the Register of Old & Valuable Trees, was found to have been infected with brown root rot disease last November.
In April, the disease had become quite advanced.
After a joint Tree Management Office and Expert Panel on Tree Management site inspection earlier this month, it was agreed the tree should be removed as soon as possible.
