Hand hygiene reminder issued

May 04, 2015

The Department of Health has called on healthcare workers and the community to pay attention to hand hygiene to mark tomorrow's Hand Hygiene Awareness Day.

The department stressed that proper hand hygiene is the key element to infection control in healthcare settings and also a good habit for society.

The theme of this year's campaign is "Strengthening healthcare systems & delivery - Hand Hygiene is Your Entrance Door".

The Centre for Health Protection has distributed educational resources and workplace reminders to healthcare staff in hospitals, clinics and long-term care facilities. This year the target audience among healthcare professionals has expanded to include general practitioners, dentists, veterinary surgeons and pharmacy departments.

The centre's Infection Control Branch will also conduct seminars for elderly care home staff to update their infection control knowledge.
