Anti-mosquito drive to start

April 14, 2015

Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man says the Government will launch a new anti-mosquito campaign next week to prepare for the coming rainy season.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting mosquito prevention and control measures in Sha Tin today, Dr Ko warned that if the city does not mount a forceful anti-mosquito campaign this year it risks a serious Dengue fever outbreak.

He noted there were three local Dengue fever cases and more than 100 imported cases last year.

Dr Ko said Hong Kong must be on the alert, as outbreaks of the disease in neighbouring areas such as Guangzhou, Taiwan and Singapore were particularly serious last year.

He urged people to get rid of stagnant water around their homes and take preventative measures when going outdoors.
