The Department of Health is investigating the illegal possession of unregistered proprietary Chinese medicine TRILEX Herbal Tea for Eliminating Heat & Detoxicating.
The product, imported from Korea, is packed by licensed Chinese medicines trader HealthWorks (International) Company for local sale.
It claims to relieve symptoms of throat discomfort.
The department said using unregistered proprietary Chinese medicines can pose a health threat as their safety, quality and efficacy are not proven.
The distributor is recalling the product and has opened a hotline 2408 0333 for enquiries.
People who have purchased the product should stop using it immediately, the department said, adding that no adverse health reports have been received so far.
