About 450 child carers working voluntarily under the Neighbourhood Support Child Care Project were commended today.
Under the project, home-based child carers are engaged in providing needy parents with more flexible services through a home-based childcare service and centre-based care groups.
Its coverage was extended across the city in October 2011, with one non-governmental organisation running a district-based service in each district.
The Social Welfare Department further enhanced the project last October by adding 234 service quotas to make the total provision no less than 954, lifting the age limit of service recipients from six to nine, and increasing funding to strengthen the service administration and training of volunteer carers.
Speaking at the ceremony, Director of Social Welfare Carol Yip expressed her gratitude to the volunteer carers and the operators, hoping they continue to support the project.
