Hungarian poultry banned

February 26, 2015

The Centre for Food Safety today banned the import of poultry products, including eggs, from Békés County in Hungary.

The ban followed a notification by the World Organisation for Animal Health about an H5N8 avian influenza outbreak in the county.

The centre has contacted Hungarian authorities and will monitor information issued by the organisation.

About 3,100 tonnes of frozen poultry meat was imported from Hungary last year.
