43 MERS cases reported

February 24, 2015

The Department of Health is monitoring 43 new Middle East Respiratory Syndrome cases in Saudi Arabia, including 14 deaths.

The patients involve 32 men and 11 women aged 23 to 85. Two previously confirmed patients died.

To date, 1,026 laboratory-confirmed MERS cases have been reported to the World Health Organisation globally, including at least 376 deaths.

No human cases have been recorded locally.

Travel agents organising tours to the Middle East are advised not to arrange camel rides or activities involving the animals, which may increase the risk of infection.
