The Centre for Health Protection has learned that a second person in Canada has developed avian influenza A (H7N9), the spouse of the first patient.
The couple, residents of British Columbia, returned to Canada from China on January 12 on an Air Canada flight. Neither needed to be hospitalised and they are both recovering.
The centre is seeking more information from Canadian health authorities. It will work with overseas health authorities to monitor the latest developments.
To date, 523 H7N9 cases have been reported globally.
