99.7% of food samples pass safety check

January 30, 2015

The Centre for Food Safety tested 10,900 food samples last month and recorded an overall satisfactory rate of 99.7%, in line with the pass rate for the whole of 2014 which was 99.8%.

Other than the 35 unsatisfactory samples announced already, two milk beverage samples were found not to contain milk fat.

The centre said these items will not likely cause any adverse health effects with normal consumption, but it has traced their sources, asked vendors to stop selling them, and has taken follow-up food samples.

It also noted that since it enhanced enforcement action in the implementation of the Nutrition Labelling Scheme for prepackaged food last October it has so far seen 14 prosecutions.
