Canada reports first H7N9 case

January 27, 2015

The Centre for Health Protection has learned of the first human case of avian influenza A (H7N9) in Canada, which is also the first case reported in North America so far.

The patient, from British Columbia, returned to Canada from the Mainland on January 12 by air. There was no need to hospitalise the patient who is now recovering in self-isolation.

The centre is seeking more information from Canadian health authorities. It will remain vigilant and work closely with overseas health authorities to monitor the latest developments.

To date, 513 H7N9 cases have been reported globally.
