The Centre for Food Safety today banned the import of poultry products, including poultry eggs from Stanislaus County in the US State of California and Belize’s Cayo District with immediate effect.
The ban was implemented due to avian influenza outbreaks in these areas.
The centre has contacted the relevant authorities and will monitor information issued by the World Organisation for Animal Health.
More than 250,000 tonnes of frozen and chilled poultry meat and 480 million eggs were imported from the US from January to November last year.
No poultry products were imported from Belize.
