Idaho poultry banned

(January 20, 2015)

The Centre for Food Safety has banned the import of poultry meat and products, including eggs, from Canyon County, Idaho, due to an H5N2 outbreak there.

The centre issued the ban after receiving notification from American authorities about the outbreak today.

About 250,000 tonnes of frozen poultry meat and 480 million eggs were imported to Hong Kong from the US from January to November last year.

The centre will liaise with American authorities and the World Organisation for Animal Health on the issue.
