More poultry banned

(January 19, 2015)

The Centre for Food Safety today banned the import of poultry products, including eggs, from Nigeria, Japan’s Saga prefecture and Israel's Haifa District with immediate effect.

The ban was implemented due to avian influenza outbreaks in these areas.

The centre has contacted Nigerian, Japanese and Israeli authorities and will monitor information issued by the World Organisation for Animal Health.

More than 5,000 tonnes of frozen and chilled poultry meat and 20 million eggs were imported from Japan from January to November last year.

No poultry meat and eggs were imported from Nigeria and Israel.
