Man critically ill with Legionnaires'

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating cases of Legionnaires' disease involving two men. One of them is in a critical condition.

 

The first patient, aged 46, fell ill on November 17 and was admitted to Queen Mary Hospital on November 24. Tests revealed he was suffering from Legionnaires' disease. He is now in stable condition.

 

The second patient, 61, became ill at the end of October and was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital on November 11 where he was then transferred to the intensive care unit.

 

Tests showed he was suffering from Legionnaires' disease. He is now in a critical condition.

 

Both patients had no recent travel history.

 

They are the 37th and the 38th cases reported this year. There were 28 cases both in 2013 and 2012.
