Secretary for Transport & Housing Prof Anthony Cheung called on drivers to enhance road safety by raising their safe driving awareness and maintaining good health.
Speaking at a ceremony today in support of the ongoing Safe Driving & Health Campaign, Prof Cheung said the total number of casualties in traffic accidents was lower in the first 10 months of this year compared with same period last year.
He noted that the legislative amendments introduced in 2010 and 2012 to combat drink driving and drug driving have produced results with the number of related arrests on the decline.
He reminded people not to drive after drinking or taking drugs.
This is the sixth consecutive year the Transport Department has organised the Safe Driving & Health Campaign. This year, participating commercial vehicle drivers can enjoy free health checks at designated health check centres. They are also encouraged to take part in seminars and workshops for safe driving and health tips.
