Hospitals prepared for clearance casualties

November 17, 2014

The Hospital Authority will be able to handle many casualties should the clearance of occupied areas turn violent, Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man says, adding he prefers that protesters leave voluntarily.

He made the statement in response to press questions after attending an event today.

He said the authority will have a response mechanism should many injuries occur.

He reiterated that the Government and Police have been exercising the greatest degree of tolerance regarding the Occupy movement, and called on protesters to leave Occupy sites peacefully.

If any violence occurs, he said the authority can send the injured to other hospitals to relieve pressure on any one emergency room.

Public hospitals have seen over 300 casualties related to the Occupy movement so far, mostly minor injuries, he added.
