Director of Health Dr Constance Chan met the World Health Organisation's Western Pacific Regional Director Dr Shin Young-soo today, to share their experience on the prevention and control of infectious diseases following the recent Ebola outbreak.

Dr Shin was first briefed on Hong Kong's approach to preventing and controlling Ebola, and on the Government's response plan for the disease.

A range of issues related to Ebola were discussed at the meeting including the command structure, risk communication strategy, stock of personal protective equipment, collaboration with neighbouring areas, and measures taken at boundary control points.

Dr Shin was confident in Hong Kong's effective prevention and control of Ebola, noting that collaboration between regions was important as containment of the disease in one place means security for the others.

The Centre for Health Protection also carried out an exercise today to enhance the preparedness and responsiveness of relevant departments to Ebola.

The drill tested how the Department of Health and the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department will co-ordinate and handle the situation if a person is found to be infected with Ebola in Hong Kong.
