Centre for Health Protection Controller Dr Leung Ting-hung has called on the public to take preventive measures against mosquitoes, after the first locally acquired Dengue fever case since 2010 was confirmed today.
Dr Leung told the media the case involves a 63-year-old man who is in stable condition. He fell ill on October 9 and was admitted to Prince of Wales Hospital on October 16.
He lives in Pok Hong Estate, Sha Tin. He works at a construction site in Sai Ying Pun where he was bitten by a mosquito.
The centre will notify doctors to watch for the disease.
