Dengue vigilance urged

September 29, 2014

Centre for Health Protection Controller Dr Leung Ting-hung has urged people to be on the alert against Dengue fever following increasing cases in neighbouring areas.

Briefing reporters on the latest situation today, Dr Leung said there have been 10,000 Dengue fever cases in Guangdong this year while Taiwan has recorded more than 3,000.

There have been 68 cases of the disease in Hong Kong so far this year - all imported.

Dr Leung reminded people to protect themselves against mosquitoes by wearing long-sleeved clothing and trousers, and to use insect repellent when travelling.

The Interdepartmental Co-ordinating Committee on Mosquito-borne Diseases held a meeting today, examining the diseases and reaffirming that effective anti-mosquito work should continue.
