The Leisure & Cultural Services Department has removed an old tree at the Zoological & Botanical Gardens to ensure public safety.
The 16-metre-tall Putranjiva roxburghii, listed as LCSD CW/67 in the Register of Old & Valuable Trees, was at risk of collapse after a 40cm crack was found between its two main trunks.
A post-typhoon inspection last week confirmed that the structural condition of the tree was poor and urgent removal was necessary.
The removal was completed today.
