Seizing gold

Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing congratulated cyclist Lee Wai-sze for winning the first gold medal for Hong Kong in the 17th Asian Games in Incheon today.

 

Lee won a gold medal in the Keirin event, the second time she has seized a medal during a multi-sports games after the bronze medal she won in the Keirin event at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

 

"Lee has performed well and won the first medal for Hong Kong in the Keirin event at the Asian Games. We are thrilled by her outstanding performance," Mr Tsang said.

 

Other Hong Kong athletes won medals in the Asian Games, including a bronze medal by fencing athlete Lin Po-heung in the Women's Foil Individual event, and another bronze medal for fencing athlete Lam Hin-chung in the Men's Sabre Individual event - the first time the Hong Kong fencing team won in the fencing individual events in the Asian Games.

 

The Women's 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay - Stephanie Au, Camille Lily Mei Cheng, Siobhan Bernadette Haughey and Rosanna Sze - seized a bronze medal and broke  Hong Kong records. 

 

 Mr Tsang encouraged Hong Kong athletes to give their best and strive for excellent results.
