Ready-to-eat food samples pass tests

September 15, 2014

The Centre for Food Safety has given the all-clear to more than 70 ready-to-eat food samples tested for the Clostridium perfringens bacteria today.

The samples of mixed dishes and gravies were collected from more than 60 different locations, including retail outlets and food factories, and were tested for the bacteria that can cause food poisoning.

All results were satisfactory.

To prevent food poisoning caused by this bacteria, the centre advised the food trade to thoroughly cook food and serve it as quickly as possible, or keep dishes at a temperature above 60 degrees Celsius if it is not to be consumed immediately.

It also urged the public not to store food at room temperature for more than two hours, as the bacteria can grow quickly in those conditions.
