No 'gutter oil' imported

September 09, 2014

Taiwan authorities have confirmed that no "gutter oil" has been imported to Hong Kong.

Centre for Food Safety Consultant Dr Ho Yuk-yin told the media today Taiwan has confirmed the Chang Guann Co Ltd's lard oil imported to Hong Kong is not the substandard product in question.

Taiwan authorities found the oil imported by Urban Food Limited, which supplied Chang Guann lard oil to Maxim's Cakes, and Lam Soon Group, which purchased it from Chang Guann, is not from the affected batches.

Dr Ho said Taiwan authorities also found Wei Chuan Foods Corporation's pork floss products, which may be made with gutter oil, have been imported to Hong Kong. The centre is investigating the case.

The centre contacted Global Way Corporation today, which confirmed its lard oil exported to Chang Guann was purchased from a company in Yuen Long. The centre will look into the claim.
