Ebola watch list updated

September 02, 2014

The Department of Health has included the whole country of Nigeria to its Ebola surveillance list after three cases were identified in Port Harcourt, in addition to the previously affected Lagos area.

The areas on the list now include Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Congo’s Equateur Province.

As at August 26, a total of 3,069 cases have been reported in Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, including 1,552 deaths.

The number of cases reported in Congo’s Equateur Province was 24, including 13 deaths.

The department called on people to avoid unnecessary travel to the affected areas, and to maintain personal and environmental hygiene.
