The Highways Department removed a Sapium sebiferum tree on a slope at Stanley Village Road today for public safety.
The 13-metre-tall tree, listed as HyD S/2 on the Register of Old & Valuable Trees, had a potential risk of collapse as it had brown root rot disease.
As the tree was located on a major road to Stanley, it was decided that the tree should be removed as soon as possible to ensure public safety and to prevent the spread of the disease to other trees.
