Ebola contingency plan unveiled

August 20, 2014

The Centre for Health Protection today launched the Preparedness & Response Plan for Ebola Virus Disease.

It comprises a three-tier response level, also adopted for the preparedness plans for influenza pandemic and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome.

The three levels are Alert, Serious and Emergency.

The Alert Response Level is activated according to the current situation.

The plan includes response measures, command structures, and mechanisms for the activation and standing down of response levels.

It also serves as a tool for clear communication of the level of risk with the public.

The centre said the plan will ensure that when Ebola might have a significant public health impact on Hong Kong, the Government will be equipped with the core capacities to prevent, detect, characterise and respond quickly, efficiently and in a co-ordinated manner to the outbreak threat to reduce mortality and morbidity.
