The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a case of necrotising fasciitis in which a 61-year-old man died.
He fell ill on July 10 and was admitted to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital.
Surgery was performed on July 11 but he died the same day.
He tested positive for Streptococcus pyogenes, a type of bacteria causing necrotising fasciitis.
He travelled to Guangdong on July 10 and returned to Hong Kong on the same day. His home contacts are asymptomatic.
The case has been referred to the Coroner.
