2 foods fail safety checks

April 30, 2014

Two food samples collected last month have failed Centre for Food Safety tests.

Releasing the findings of its March food safety report today, the centre said it tested 9,800 food samples in March, seeing an overall satisfactory rate of 99.9%.

The samples included fruit and vegetables, meat and poultry, dairy, and aquatic products, as well as frozen confections, cereals and grains, and other items.

A sample of skimmed milk was found to have an excessive bacterial count, and a sample of fresh pork contained illicit preservative sulphur dioxide.

The centre reminded consumers to patronise reliable shops when buying food, and maintain a balanced diet.
