Kumamoto poultry banned

April 14, 2014

The Centre for Food Safety has suspended the import of poultry and poultry products, including eggs, from Kumamoto prefecture, Japan.

Japanese authorities have reported an outbreak of H5 avian influenza at a broiler farm in the prefecture.

About 8,000 tonnes of frozen poultry meat and 17 million poultry eggs were imported to Hong Kong from Japan last year.

The centre said it will monitor the situation and take appropriate action.
