10th HK human H7N9 case confirmed

The Centre for Health Protection today confirmed the10th human H7N9 case in Hong Kong, an 85-year-old woman who had travelled to Dongguan.

 

She had come into contact with chickens while visiting the city on April 4 and 5. She returned to Hong Kong, and developed fever, a bloody cough and shortness of breath since April 11.

 

She was admitted to Tseung Kwan O Hospital today and tested positive for H7N9. She is currently under isolation and in critical condition.

 

The centre has identified eight of her family members as close contacts. Seven have no symptoms, but one developed a sore throat since yesterday. All family members will be sent to hospital for tests.

 

The centre is investigating her other contacts.
